I tried the Tiktok-Famous $55 Omakase in New York City

A 13-course omakase dinner for $55 in Manhattan sounds too good to be true. But after stumbling upon this TikTok-famous spot during my January trip to New York, I can confirm: it’s not only real, it’s a great deal.

It all started when my friend sent a TikTok of this omakase dinner deal for $55. We were staying in New York for five days and four nights and we decided to have one fancy dinner but it just so happened that she found such a deal!

After having omakase in Japan, I had expectations for omakase. However I was willing to cut it slack because it was $50. But it did not disappoint at all and it was one heck of a good deal for a $55 omakase 13-course meal (with no tip!) in New York City.

Mojo East – the $55 Omakase Deal

You first have to make a reservation a couple days ahead of time to ensure that you get a spot at the table AND to be on time. Since it’s an omakase and an incredibly great deal, they are almost sectioned by the hour for their reservations. You had to put your card down for the reservation.

The 13-course progression at this omakase begins with lighter, delicate fish before building to richer, more indulgent offerings. The meal opens with madai (sea bream) and suzuki (sea bass), both clean and subtly seasoned, followed by akami (lean tuna) that delivers satisfying depth.

The experience then elevates with chu-toro and o-toro—medium and fatty tuna that arrive buttery and melt-in-your-mouth, dramatically topped with gold dust. The lineup continues with kinmedai or gindara (goldeneye snapper or black cod) offering smooth, savory notes, and orata (bream) providing a lighter counterpoint before the courses shift into more luxurious territory.

The second half of the meal brings some of the most memorable bites. Cold, umami-rich ikura (salmon roe) served on rice is followed by one of the standout courses: ebi-uni, featuring sweet shrimp generously topped with fresh, creamy sea urchin.

Then comes a luxurious pairing of salmon with foie gras, followed by Hokkaido scallop (hotate) and grilled A5 wagyu topped with truffle—juicy and indulgent. The procession concludes with unagi (eel) glazed in sweet sauce with crispy skin and homemade avocado sauce, and finishes with a hand roll (salmon-toro on the day of this visit).

Each piece arrives with precision and speed, maintaining consistent quality throughout the entire 13-course experience.

My favorite one was definitely the salmon with fois gras, the wagyu, and the ebi-uni. Though I will say the uni definitely pales in color and taste compared to the uni that I had in Japan. But no complaints for a $55 omakase meal in New York City. The total bill came down to around $59.88 (adding tax + whatever else + with a no tip policy) per person.

Conclusion

Nonetheless if you’re looking for an omakase dinner experience in New York City without the $200-$300 price tag, Mojo East it is absolutely worth the hype that it gets on TikTok. Because for $55 you get a curated 13-course omakase meal, nice ambience, and experience (the chef tries to engage the customers through little gestures when presenting each dish), it’s really hard to beat that and to even find that anywhere else in New York City.

The key is really to plan ahead and make sure that you have a reservation planned with a few days in advance, just in case the spots run out! At under $60 per person with no tipping required, this is easily one of the best dining deals in Manhattan. Whether you’re a seasoned omakase enthusiast or trying it for the first time, Mojo East delivers quality and value that’s hard to beat!
